Teacher's retirement cake!

A couple, who happen to both be teachers, are both retiring together.
Their daughters decided to throw them a party.

They wanted a "teacher/school" themed cake.  The main elements they were the ruler and the chalk board...and maybe the letters.

Few things say, "Celebrate!" quite like shooting stars!

A few teacher's apples thrown in, lots of streamers and it's a cake worthy of the party.

Their retirement plans? Travel in the Air Stream trailer they just purchased.
One of the daughters bakes  wonderful, delicious almond cookies.
They thought having the little trailers as cookie toppers would be sweet.
I had to agree! These were fun to create, but seeing a whole tray of them made me want to go camping!

The top tier of the cake was almond white cake, filled with vanilla Swiss buttercream.  Lower tier was chocolate, filled with chocolate buttercream and then the entire cake was frosted with Swiss buttercream.  All accents were either modeling chocolate or gumpaste.  100% edible...even the trailers!

Graduation Pig Cake!

A co-worker's eldest son just graduated from high school.
They were throwing a good ol' fashion southern "pig pickin'" to celebrate.
She wondered if I could come up with a cake to go along with the pig theme...

She didn't have to wonder too much since she knows me well...

One chocolate cake piggy filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream, modeling chocolate snout and hooves, and sporting a gumpaste cap...

And a little piggy tail!

Ballet cake!

A long time customer was holding a small reception following her daughter's first ballet recital.
She requested a cake for the occasion.

Delicate pink ballet slippers molded out of gumpaste...

Gracing the top of a fondant covered white vanilla cake...

Filled with whipped vanilla buttercream...

Fondant and gumpaste blended together to keep the surrounding ribbon and shoe "ties"
pliable to form the delicate lines...

The cake sat atop a hand made pink tutu...

Actually, the last shot was just a chance for me to play with my new camera.

Minnie Mouse!

The birthday girl requested a purple and pink Minnie Mouse cake.  I decided to go with the iconic ears, bow and polka dotted skirt...

Almond cake filled with a creamy white chocolate mousse, covered with vanilla buttercream and modeling chocolate.

100% edible...even the gumpaste ears.  Though, not recommended unless one wants black teeth!

I know that I'm supposed to present my cakes in the best possible manner, but the "after" photos are still my favorite.  Because, no matter how lovely they look on the outside, it still has to be delicious, yummy cake!

Monster Trucks!

An exciting monster truck cake for a 6 year old!

Two tiers of white vanilla cake filled with creamy chocolate mousse and covered with vanilla buttercream.  Hand painted buttercream "flames" add to the excitement!

The "tire" and all other accents are modeling chocolate.

The birthday boy's favorite monster truck perched on top and ready to go!
