Surprise!

A sweet friend of mine just celebrated the last of her four children's birthdays for the year.  Her birthday is the day after her son's.  She deserved a cake all of her own!  She was confused when I walked in to the party with two cake boxes...

Red Velvet cake with Whipped Icing.  This was my mom's recipe and the first time I've attempted it.  I have to say, I was pleased with the results!  The recipe itself was more work than I'm used to in a recipe, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  I love the frosting and will definitely add it to my repertoire of confections!

Bowling cake!

Nathanael wanted a bowling party for his 5th birthday so his mom requested a bowling themed cake and they were both delighted with the results!

Bowling ball is Chocolate ganache filled Butter Nut Vanilla, covered in vanilla buttercream and homemade fondant.  Pin and base are Chocolate ganache filled Chocolate Fudge cake.  Base is covered in Chocolate buttercream and the pin is covered in Vanilla Buttercream and homemade fondant.

Noah's Ark!

One very crowded ark for one very special boy! 

Giraffes are the birthday boy's favorite animal so he got an extra one for his own cupcake! 

 Cake and cupcakes...vanilla buttermilk with chocolate Swiss buttercream filling and icing.

Animals are homemade fondant and modeling chocolate.

So much fun to create...even better to eat!
