Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

It was a very simple request...
a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed cake in the shape of the number 2.
And chocolate.

Got it!

A double batch of chocolate cake, cut into a 2,
and covered with buttercream frosting.

I typically do my best to keep everything on the cake edible.
However, there wasn't really sufficient time to create the figures and do them justice.
So a quick trip to the local toy store, a quick wash...instant cake figures!

But this way the birthday girl was able to have her cake and new toys as well!

But her name was all edible.

Sweet 16...book geek style!

I had been looking forward to creating this delightful cake for at least two years!
The birthday girl loves to read..."Harry Potter" and "Alice in Wonderland" are a couple of her favorite books.  The mom wanted something that pulled in all of her favorite things...including her love of Nutella.

Two tiers of chocolate cake filled with the most decadent Nutella mousse, and covered in vanilla buttercream.

A few of her favorite things created out of modeling chocolate
...including her pet pig, Alice...

The golden snitch...

The birthday girl was delighted!

Happy Birthday to me!

Over the summer we discovered I was gluten intolerant. It was a long journey to get to that point, and we made the discovery too late to save my gallbladder. Over the past several months my gluten free baking has come a long way! The saying, "Baking is science for hungry people" was never more true!  Along came my birthday, and although my sister offered to bake me a cake, I knew exactly what I wanted and how to make it happen.

Decadent, rich, dark chocolate with chocolate Swiss buttercream and salted caramel....

Oh my goodness...

So much chocolate deliciousness! And gluten free!
Happy birthday to me, indeed!

Noah's Ark!

One very special boy recently celebrated his first birthday! His mom really wanted a Noah's Ark cake but she also knew I was gimping around with a torn ankle tendon.  She said cupcakes and at least a giraffe for the birthday boy would be fine.

Obviously she's learned nothing in the years she's known me.

An almond cake with chocolate "planks" ark overflowing with modeling chocolate animals...all adrift on a chocolate cake sea.

The boy did get his giraffes...and all of the other attending children had their pick of animals as well!

These two were just monkeying around.

The zebras looked a little nervous nestled in between the lions and tigers.

And the elephants were crowding out the poor panda bears!

The boy throughly enjoyed his giraffes and cake...as did we all!
