Luau!

The original conversation went a little like this:

So...I need to talk to you about a volcano cake
Sure! Are you thinking "human sacrifice" or "Luau"?
You know, she'd be delighted with either one...but how about we go with Luau?
Okie dokie!

I lost count of how many layers of chocolate sponge cake  I stacked up for the volcano.  But it was a lot of chocolate cake all held together with chocolate ganache.

Surrounding "island" is vanilla cake, more ganache and crushed up graham crackers for "sand".
Modeling chocolate and gum paste trees, thinned out orange buttercream frosting for the lava and swirling buttercream waves finished out the cake.

The mom sent me an inside view.  A special inside lava surprise!

Baby shower Barn yard!

A very special family is welcoming a baby boy in a few short weeks.  His nursery layette is farm themed...so, of course, his shower cake had to follow suit.

Six layers of chocolate cake, filled and covered with vanilla Swiss buttercream.

Baby cow and chickens are molded from modeling chocolate.  For the recordI do not recommend working with modeling chocolate in August!

The barn is covered in fondant and a chocolate roof.

Almond "haystack" cupcakes to round out the display!

So much fun to create!  Even more fun to hear some of the party goers confess they didn't realize the barn was cake!

Thanks, D and A for allowing me to be part of your special day!

Princess cake!

The birthday girl requested a princess in a pink dress.  Emphasis on the Pink Dress.

No princess is complete without her crown.

And lots of ruffles under her dress.

A very regal, very pink princess cake!

Lots and lots of ruffles!

Cake is eight layers of vanilla and almond white cake, filled with vanilla buttercream.  Ruffles are gum paste and the dress is all pink modeling chocolate.  Everything but the doll herself is eatable.

Celebration cake!

Allow me to brag for a moment...my eldest nephew graduates from high school next month.  But he's skipping graduation because he was also accepted to perform with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corp!

Since he'll be away from home for his birthday I made him a cake to celebrate everything!

Two layer cake...one chocolate and one vanilla.  Filled and covered with vanilla Swiss Buttercream.  Decorations are frozen buttercream transfers.

Superhero cake!

A birthday cake for a superhero named Zachary...

Of course, he couldn't pick just one...so Batman and Spiderman showed up too...

I didn't get to meet the birthday boy but his mom was delighted with the results!

Top layer is Chocolate Fudge cake, bottom layer is vanilla yellow cake.  Both are filled with vanilla buttercream.  The entire cake is covered in fondant with buttercream "webs".  The "Z" superman emblem is done in color flow.

Baby blue ruffle cake...

A baby blue ruffle cake for a laid back baby shower brunch...

Almond flavored white cake (the mom-to-be's favorite) filled and covered with vanilla Swiss buttercream.

Francesco Bernouli!

His mom told me that this was going to be his first "real" birthday party.  So, of course, the cake had to be fantastic!  Since the birthday boy was a Francesco fan, I made him a replica he could eat...

Vanilla cake covered in vanilla buttercream...

And rice crispy treat, hand painted Francesco revved up and ready to go!

Puppy!

For one amazing little boy who adores his dog...a chocolate lab puppy!

Vanilla cake covered in chocolate buttercream with modeling chocolate accents...

He's ready to play and promises he won't make a mess!

Sweet 16!

My delightful, beautiful and talented niece is a massive Tim Burton fan.
Her 16th birthday cake could be nothing short of fabulous...

Chocolate fudge cake filled with white chocolate custard and covered with cooked vanilla buttercream.

Black modeling chocolate ribbon roses, stripes and a mended gumpaste heart...

Edward Scissorhands himself would have been delighted!

Sleeping Beauty!

When my own daughter very specifically requested a Sleeping Beauty cake with a crown...
that's exactly what she's going to get!

Vanilla cake covered in vanilla Swiss buttercream, filled with white chocolate custard.
"Skirt" is modeling chocolate and the crown is hand painted gumpaste.

"Eye" see you!

My son requested a bleeding giant eyeball cake for their Halloween party.
I was happy to oblige!

Chocolate fudge cake filled with strawberry sauce "blood".

Surrounding "brain" cupcakes were iced with brown sugar swiss buttercream,

Unfortunately, the cake was too cold for the "blood" to really ooze...but it still tasted amazing!

Ambulance cake!

Six layers of chocolate fudge cake can not go wrong!

The birthday boy requested an ambulance...his previous two cakes have been a firetruck and police cars. So this one had to be epic!

Hand painted gumpaste sheets covered the vanilla buttercream...

The cab was molded out of rice crispy treats and covered with gumpaste.
Working lights courtesy of my brilliant husband!

Another 40th celebration!

The request was for a yellow Camaro covered in the birthday girl's favorite things!
They also requested carrot cake which I refuse to punish myself by attempting to carve it, so the compromise was a cake topper!

The car is molded out of rice crispy treats, covered in white chocolate and gumpaste and handpainted.

Setting atop a cream cheese frosted carrot cake filled with white chocolate custard.

What a way to celebrate turning 40!

Zombie!

A very chocolaty chocolate zombie cake for my nephew's 12th birthday.
His request...how could I say "no"?!

Chocolate fudge cake filled and covered with chocolate ganache..

Dark chocolate coffin top held in to place with gumpaste "nails"...

Braaaaiiinnnnsss....

This is one zombie that didn't survive to terrorize a village!
