Zombie!

A very chocolaty chocolate zombie cake for my nephew's 12th birthday.
His request...how could I say "no"?!

Chocolate fudge cake filled and covered with chocolate ganache..

Dark chocolate coffin top held in to place with gumpaste "nails"...

This is one zombie that didn't survive to terrorize a village!

Sweet and girlie baby shower cake!

A new baby is always a great cause for celebration!

The requests were pastel colors, cute and girlie...with a small, subtle bit of zebra striping...

Tiny delicate baby booties to match a delicate ribbon...

Rose buds for a baby girl...

Striping to pull it all together...

Sweet, cute and girlie...

Top tier is Red Velvet cake filled with cream cheese frosting and covered with a cooked vanilla buttercream...combining both traditional icings for a Red Velvet cake.

Lower tier is Chocolate Buttermilk Fudge filled with vanilla custard and fresh raspberries and covered with vanilla Swiss buttercream.

All decorations are a mixture of sugar paste and modeling chocolate.

Air Force Insignia cake!

She wanted to provide something different for a retiring co-worker--something bold yet simplistic.

 I think we nailed it!

The insignia was created using the Frozen Buttercream Transfer technique.  The biggest challenge was in achieving just the correct shade of blue.  It was a delightful change to work on a cake that allowed me focus on the basics of decorating rather than the trial and error of carving, building and molding.

Worst Pie in London!

My dearest niece and her besty adore all things Tim Burton and especially the movie "Sweeney Todd".  When I was asked if I could come up with an appropriate birthday cake my warped brain started churning.  We went with a rather gruesome recreation of a meat pie...

Of course it had to contain a body part...or two...

We couldn't just leave it as a simple cake...there had to be an element of surprise...so we made it "bleed!

Fresh made strawberry sauce was lurking in the middle and the whole thing worked just as we planned!  The birthday girl was delighted, over joyed and ecstatic!

Cake is chocolate fudge with mini chocolate chips, filled with vanilla custard, covered in chocolate buttercream and wrapped in modeling chocolate.  The "finger" is a mixture of modeling chocolate and gumpaste and hand painted to give it a gruesome corpse look.

So much fun to plan and to create!

40th Birthday Cake!

I was delighted when I received a request for a cake to celebrate a husband's 40th birthday and she didn't ask for all black and tombstones!

Birthday's are happy occasions and I love making the cake reflect that.
A very festive cake for another milestone!

Cake is chocolate fudge filled with vanilla custard and fresh strawberries and covered in vanilla buttercream with gumpaste accents.

Wine Glass!

I was asked to create a cake to celebrate a special person's 21st birthday.  Then came the challenge of a 3D wine glass...

A few of the birthday girl's favorite things...

The cake is 100% gluten free and %100 edible...with the exception of the wood dowel running all the way through.

The glass is vanilla white cake and the base is chocolate.  Both are filled with chocolate Swiss buttercream and covered with fondant.  The charms are hand painted gum paste.

A delightfully fun cake to celebrate one of our cultures rites of passage!

Cowgirl cake...

When she was only a few months old,  Hannah used to come stay with us during the day
when her mom went back to work.

I got a little teary eyed thinking about all of our little ones growing up so fast!

She's in love with horses so I gave her a white horse to match her birthday party napkins.

All decorations are chocolate.
