Worst Pie in London!

My dearest niece and her besty adore all things Tim Burton and especially the movie "Sweeney Todd".  When I was asked if I could come up with an appropriate birthday cake my warped brain started churning.  We went with a rather gruesome recreation of a meat pie...

Of course it had to contain a body part...or two...

We couldn't just leave it as a simple cake...there had to be an element of surprise...so we made it "bleed!

Fresh made strawberry sauce was lurking in the middle and the whole thing worked just as we planned!  The birthday girl was delighted, over joyed and ecstatic!

Cake is chocolate fudge with mini chocolate chips, filled with vanilla custard, covered in chocolate buttercream and wrapped in modeling chocolate.  The "finger" is a mixture of modeling chocolate and gumpaste and hand painted to give it a gruesome corpse look.

So much fun to plan and to create!

40th Birthday Cake!

I was delighted when I received a request for a cake to celebrate a husband's 40th birthday and she didn't ask for all black and tombstones!

Birthday's are happy occasions and I love making the cake reflect that.
A very festive cake for another milestone!

Cake is chocolate fudge filled with vanilla custard and fresh strawberries and covered in vanilla buttercream with gumpaste accents.

Wine Glass!

I was asked to create a cake to celebrate a special person's 21st birthday.  Then came the challenge of a 3D wine glass...

A few of the birthday girl's favorite things...

The cake is 100% gluten free and %100 edible...with the exception of the wood dowel running all the way through.

The glass is vanilla white cake and the base is chocolate.  Both are filled with chocolate Swiss buttercream and covered with fondant.  The charms are hand painted gum paste.

A delightfully fun cake to celebrate one of our cultures rites of passage!

Cowgirl cake...

When she was only a few months old,  Hannah used to come stay with us during the day
when her mom went back to work.

I got a little teary eyed thinking about all of our little ones growing up so fast!

She's in love with horses so I gave her a white horse to match her birthday party napkins.

Chocolate Buttermilk Fudge with vanilla custard filling and vanilla buttercream icing.
All decorations are chocolate.

Fit for a princess...

When I asked the birthday girl what she wanted for a cake she replied, "flowers, lots of flowers, a princess crown and a castle, and flowers!"  She didn't even notice I left out the castle...

White almond flavored cake filled with vanilla custard and covered in vanilla buttercream.  All decorations are chocolate and topped with a custom designed chocolate tiara.  What more could a four-year-old princess ask for?

100% cake. 100% edible. The only thing exploding is a waistline or two!

Thought I should clear that up...you know, just in case anyone from
Homeland Security stumbles onto my little ol' cake blog!

A law enforcement friend is retiring after 31 one years on the force.  And the past 10 years on the bomb squad.  The man deserved the finest send off we could give him!

Gray cake:
Chocolate fudge cake with cookies and cream filling.
Vanilla Swiss buttercream icing with fondant and chocolate accents.

Black cake:
Almond buttermilk white cake with vanilla cream filling and covered in fondant.
Emblem is painted white chocolate.

Both delicious! Both "disarmed" with enthusiasm!

Surprise!

A sweet friend of mine just celebrated the last of her four children's birthdays for the year.  Her birthday is the day after her son's.  She deserved a cake all of her own!  She was confused when I walked in to the party with two cake boxes...

Red Velvet cake with Whipped Icing.  This was my mom's recipe and the first time I've attempted it.  I have to say, I was pleased with the results!  The recipe itself was more work than I'm used to in a recipe, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  I love the frosting and will definitely add it to my repertoire of confections!
